Teaching Procedure
Step 1 Revision
1. A duty report.
2. Revise the days of the week and their spellings with the help of cards.
3. Revise borrow by saying the action chain.
Step 2 Presentation
Play a game. Find the ruler. Ask two students to leave the room. After they leave the room, have the class give a ruler to one student. The students in the room must not tell the two students where the ruler is. Say to the two students. Come in, please. Explain in Chinese. Ask the two students to try to find the ruler as quickly as possible by asking them. May I borrow a ruler, please? The students in class should try to make the two students go to as many people as possible by answering I’m sorry, I don’t have one, ask. . . I think he/ she has one.
Step 3 Read and say
1. Books closed. Write some questions on the blackboard. Does Jim have a dictionary? Who has one? Where does Li Lei borrow one from? Play the tape once or twice.
2. Books open. Students listen and repeat, then practise in pairs. Point out the use of “give... back”.

4. Ask the students to prepare. Choose some groups or pairs to act out their dialogue in front of the class. Have the students give attention to the use of it/them and some/any.
Step 4 Listen and answer
Go over the questions in exercise one of the Workbook before playing the tape.

Step 5 Practice
Go over the phrases in the Workbook exercise 3 and make sure they understand them before the students make sentences. Make comments and corrections while they make sentences.
