Teaching Procedure
Step 1 Revision
(1) A duty report.
(2) Get the students to make a short dialogue in pairs. Revise Excuse me. Sorry, Certainly, I would like. . . and Thanks very much.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Teacher: My pen doesn’t work. I have to go to the shop to get a new one. What time does the shop close? Put a picture on the blackboard and help the students answer eight o’clock by pointing at the sign.
2. Teach at this time of day, supermarket, and open 24 hours with the help of cards.
3. Books closed. Write Where do they go to get an eraser? ( the supermarket) on the blackbird. Play the tape for Part One once or twice.
4. Get the students to read the dialogue in pairs.
Step 3 Read and act
1. Teach borrow by asking a student. May I borrow your pen? Help the student answer Certainly, or OK. Say Thanks very much.
2. Start an action chain.
A: May I borrow your pencil?
B: Certainly.
A: Thanks very much.
B: May I borrow your… ?
C: Certainly.
3. Books closed. Write Why does the person have no money? (Her purse is at home. ) on the blackboard. Play the tape for Part Two once.
4. Books open. Play the tape again. The students read aloud.
5. The students read in pairs, then act it out.
Step 4 Read and Learn
1. Teach the days of the week by cards.
2. Play the tape for Part Three and the students repeat.
Step 5. Writing
Language points. Write down the following sentences on the note books. Make sure they understand their meaning.
(1) Do you have an eraser?
(2) May I borrow your pen?
(3) Thanks a lot. You’re welcome.
